Questions & Answers

What is counselling ?

Counselling offers a safe environment in a confidential non-judgement place where you can express your feelings, voice your concerns, explore your thoughts and find out what it is that has brought you here at this moment in time.

A time allocated just for you to think through your options. To find out and get to know yourself better, to look at what might no longer be working for you and causing you difficulties and how to bring about positive life enhancing changes.

In order for this to happen, as counsellor and client, we need to work together, to explore, focus and address the presenting issue you have chosen and to take both the opportunity presented and the support it offers you.

To build a real honest and trusting counsellor/client relationship where you feel able to make those important changes necessary at a pace that feels right for you.

Are you feeling anxious, sad, fearful and with low self-esteem? Then Counselling could offer you the way forward to a more fulfilling and rewarding life.

What happens next ?

Once you have contacted me, I will make an initial assessment appointment, enabling us to meet and find out what it is that has brought you to seek counselling at this time, to answer any questions or concerns you might have and explain how counselling works.

The first consultation session is free and can last up to 50 minutes and you are under no obligation at this point.

This initial session gives us the opportunity to see if we feel able to work together and are our ideas are compatible. It is important that you find the right counsellor for you and equally important that I feel able to provide the right type of professional service required.

We can decide which best suits your needs, but I usually suggest we meet for six sessions. Some people who have a specific issue find this enough, whilst others wishing to explore, reflect, make positive changes to their lives, become more self aware and empowered may need longer term therapy.

Where and when ?

I work Mostly from my practice at home in Chandlers Ford and occasionally work from premises near Lyndhurst out in the New Forest.

When you contact me to make an appointment, we can discuss the best location, directions and relevant parking information.

When can I have an appointment ?

I work mostly in the evenings and at weekends. Times of sessions can be negotiated, subject to availability, and discussed on our first contact or at our first preliminary meeting.

I am available to visit clients at their homes or agencies' depending on the client's particular needs, disability and the time of the counselling session required.

How much does it cost ?

Each counselling session costs £40 and lasts fifty minutes; I can offer special reduced rates for people receiving benefits or students etc. Payment is by cash or cheque in advance or at the beginning of a session.

Learning disabilities counselling costs will need to be discussed with the client or organisation/agency at the initial assessment and will depend upon the needs of the client.

I will endeavour to keep my clients informed of any forthcoming breaks and I need twenty-four hours notice to cancel a session should a client be unable to attend.
